Local 071 Launches “Love to Learn” Pilot Program
Local 071 is proud to launch our “Love to Learn” program.
This program will see all AUPE members who complete an open registration AUPE Education course receive a $25 Guusto Gift Card, courtesy of Local 071!
“Local Council voted overwhelmingly in favour of launching the “Love to Learn” pilot program, to provide incentive to our members who take the initiative to learn more about AUPE,” explains Randy Butler, Chair of Local 071. “AUPE has much more to offer members than most of us realize, and taking educational courses is a great way to not only become familiar with what AUPE does, but also how to become involved.”
Any member who has completed a course simply needs to email our Treasurer at treasurer@aupelocal071.com with your proof of completion, and we will have the gift card sent to you.
Open registration courses include any course offered by AUPE Education that is open to all members to register for. It does not include conferences, meetings or training opportunities for Stewards.
Local 071 Council has adopted a new mascot!
The only problem is, that this cute little critter is in need of a name. This is where you come in!
We are accepting name ideas from any Local 071 member for our new friend. The winning submission will be rewarded with a $100 Guusto Gift Card!
Who Selects the Winning Name?
All submissions will be taken to the Local 071 Communications and Member Engagement Committee. The Committee will vote on their top five suggestions, which will then go to Local Council for final selection. The name of the member submitting each suggestion will only be known by the Local Chair, to ensure that the Committee and Council are choosing the new mascot’s name based on the merit of the suggestion itself.
What Happens if More Than One Person Suggests the Winning Name?
If by some stroke of luck, more than one person suggests the same name, and that name goes on to be selected, the $100 Guusto Gift card prize will be split equally amongst those who suggested teh winning name!
Local 071 Executive will reach out to the winning members by email and/or telephone to notify them if they have won. The winning name will be announced on the Local 071 Facebook Page, and in our next newsletter!

Your AUPE Local Executive and the Local 071 Strategic Planning and Policy Committee are excited to announce a contest for all AUPE Local 071 members - and all you have to do to enter is register for a MyAUPE account - and if you already have registered, you are already entered!
Every Chapter in Local 071 will have three draws for $100 Guusto gift cards for lucky recipients who have registered for a MyAUPE account. Guusto gift cards can be used at over 80 retail outlets, including grocery stores, big box retailers, restaurants, and even vacation providers! And every one of our members has a chance to WIN - as long as they have a MyAUPE account!

In 2020, AUPE launched a new website, and with it, an online MyAUPE tool for all AUPE members to use. But why would you want to sign up for MyAUPE? Well, because MyAUPE:
Will host voting for your Chapters next ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Easily manage your membership information, like your contact information, and your communications preferences.
Strike Pay - ensure that you receive your strike pay by having a MyAUPE account and sending in the necessary documents.
Make it faster and easier to look up important information, like your Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’s).
So how do you enter? It’s easy, just sign up for a MyAUPE Account! And if you already have a MyAUPE Account, you are already entered! That’s all you have to do. Once the contest closes, Local Executive will request a list of all members who have a MyAUPE account in each Chapter, and we will make a blind draw for one lucky recipient from each Chapter!

You will need your six-digit AUPE Member ID number to create your account. If you do not know what your Member ID number is, you can contact our Member Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
When is the contest?
The contest will be running up until the Local 071 Annual General Meeting on May 8, 2026!
